Finally, came the top dogs. The 18 & Over division saw some incredible hockey, chock full of great goaltending and defense. In 72 games of round-robin play, there were 30 shutouts and 27 one-goal games. Needless to say, these guys came to play.

From Philadelphia, Pa., there was Marple Sports Arena. And from Stockholm, Sweden came the Stockholm Capitals. These two squads matched up very well. Both play a strong defense, look to force their opponents into mistakes, and allow their top-of-the-line goaltenders to do their thing when needed. The first period saw some strong defense from the Capitals and some incredible goaltending from Marple Sports.

The Caps were able to find a seam and pick up a goal late in the first. The second period saw more of the same. Marple Sports pressed and pressed, but couldn't seem to get any quality shots on goal. They came close late in the period, but were shut down between the pipes. Marple Sports' best chance came in the third, down 3-0, when a beautiful give-and-go play gave them an apparent open net goal. However, the Caps goaltending somehow dove across the net and slammed down his stick and the door to preserve the shutout. The game ended 5-0 and gave the Capitals their first title in three trips to the championship tournament.

"It's a tremendous feeling to win it all," said Capitals captain John Redinger, whose club lost in the semifinals the previous two seasons. "It's been lots of fun. We've been trying so hard for so many years, finally we can take the trophy home. We didn't want to go home to Sweden and say that we came in third again."
